What 5G means for IoT? How far is 5G and what it would mean for IoT

It’s been quite some time that the hype around 5G and its relation to the internet of things (IoT) has been growing exponentially. So far, a number of service providers have said that 5G will be the next-generation mobile network that provides everything from superfast bandwidth speeds, to ultra-low latency, to ten-times the geographic coverage. But when and how it translates into real life is something we’ve all been eagerly waiting for.

However, one of the biggest things we have yet to decode is what all this means for enterprises that work in IoT, typically what’s lacking is the real substance and clarity. While the buzz is ever-increasing, this has the potential to fundamentally transform mobile-cellular networks. But despite the narrative that’s being spread that 5G is just around the corner, it’s still in early deployment stages.

In reality, deployment of 5G might not see the light of day anytime soon. One of the biggest concerns is that 5G lacks a solid definition, which means cellular providers could eventually label a slightly-faster-than-LTE connection as 5G. Once the global infrastructure is in place, only then can 5G actually bring about a change. To actually tap into the complete potential of what it can do for us, the policymakers and governments will have to work with private companies. Companies like Letstrack that have already worked with Govt. and shown what they can do will get a push. As the world’s only company with AI-enabled GPS Security Devices, Letstrack is also looking forward to the advent of 5G. It will not only give them more space to explore their already impressive line of features but enhance their vision of – ‘Everything that moves can be tracked’. The coming years are going to be interesting, as we see IoT become mainstream, and also to see what innovations companies like Letstrack come out with.

Mission $5 Tn: Budget 2020

Just like every year, this time as well the government is crafting a Budget. This time around though, the aim is to achieve 5 trillion-dollar economy.

The current Finance Minister of India, Nirmala Sitharaman will be presenting the Union budget for the financial year 2020-21 in Parliament on February 1. The government has begun its work taking strides towards the $5 Tn economy; however, we yet don’t know what exactly would be in the basket of the 2020 budget.

To know more about this, we got a byte from the CEO and Head Coach of Letstrack. We asked him to shed some light on how the budget and plan might shape up like, for a more objective point of view:

“The government must help the startups to grow through the implementation of tax benefit to angle investors for investing in the startups and to reduce the GST for the entrepreneurs who are new in the markets. We need more policies favouring local businesses. The government needs to focus on development for technologies like AI, Data Analytics, Machine Learning etc. Adoption of technology is a must across both private and public sector companies and especially in sectors like Transportation. The government needs to emphasize more on the personal security of the individuals and their data. More budget needs to be allocated to the companies or manufacturers providing security products. The government in Budget 2020 should focus more on Smart Cities and Digital India initiative in order to shape the IT infrastructure and increase the adoption of technology. Lastly, we expect the policies to be implemented for higher use of technology in order to make systems efficient and transparent.”

Securing the future of democracy! Tracking the elections, quite literally

Legislative Assembly elections will be held in Delhi on 8 February 2020 to elect 70 members of the Delhi Legislative Assembly. Being around the corner, the heat is on. The Govt and the authorities are taking all the precautions that they can to ensure that the elections happen without any foul play. But as always, there’s a lot of question around the security of EVMs, especially given the past track records of what goes on in our nation. There have been times when workers of political parties have been reported to be guarding the EVMs to ensure they are not tampered with. However, thanks to technology, all of this may not be necessary.

To eradicate any scope of tampering, the ECI has instructed vehicles transporting EVMs and VVPATs to be mandatorily equipped with IoT devices that have a GPS chip for location tracking. These vehicles will be then monitored from control rooms that have been set up. This way the vehicles transporting EVM machines can easily be pinpointed, and in-case of any anomalies in their route or stops countermeasures can be taken in time. Further, the speed of the vehicle is also used as an indicator for whether it’s under duress from external elements, or engine troubles.

Last year Letstrack kept a check on approximately 25,000 vehicles carrying EVMs and ensured that the election process went by smoothly and uneventfully. The main reason behind the integration of GPS tracking solutions in the EVM carrying trucks are to reduce the number of polling stations under shadow zones. Hacking of vehicles would not be possible as these machines can’t be tampered using Bluetooth etc. The data collected would be stored internally and can’t be transferred to any other device.

The intermediation of a tech company led to smooth EVM transfers without any cases of hostility or tampering in those 25,000 vehicles. This goes to show just how much good the right kind of tech can bring about in our society and how it can affect a nation. Tech companies like Letstrack should be brought on-board to provide solutions that could lead to proper governance of elections, and any other sphere of running the nation. These advancements which are already making countless people, families and assets safe are sure to help the nation as a whole and help in running it better.

So, this time let’s see what methods the Govt. comes up with to address this situation. It would be particularly interesting in seeing how good it is implemented as well. For a seasoned professional like Letstrack it’s fairly easy to undertake a task of such magnitude. As the date’s not far away it’s not going to be a long wait to see what the outcome will be.

The Big Difference Between GPS Tracking and GPS Security

GPS has become a part of our everyday life. GPS systems are included in smartphones, automobile navigation systems, and many other consumer devices. Still, people have a lot of misconceptions around GPS. There are a lot of myths and wrong theories that people trade as facts, but don’t worry we are here to set the record straight.

The use of GPS for Tracking Purposes

This is the original, so it’s a lot simpler and straightforward. GPS is an abbreviation for Global Positioning System. This basically means that it is a navigation device that is used to check the location of an individual or a vehicle. The device is a simple one and can be found in phones as well, but the major difference between this and the ones used for security is that they are built to go on for longer periods of time and be accurate at all times.

The use of GPS for Security Purposes

The next step in the evolution of GPS Tracking is the use of GPS for security purposes; mainly to monitor the movements of family/friends/pets, vehicles, and assets. To support the devices, there are software’s and apps that come loaded with features such as real-time tracking, route history, geofence zones and even AI which allow users to provide personal safety measures for family members and enhance vehicle security.

This simple solution helps a lot of concerned parents and family members breathe easy. By employing the services of personal locators, they keep an eye on their loved ones and make sure that no matter where they are and at whatever time, they are safe. The ability to track the location of a person in real-time and receive instant notifications make personal tracking devices one of the best safety systems on the market.

On the other hand, businesses and fleet owners use this to extract data provided by GPS and telematics devices to reduce operational costs and enforce better driving habits. It’s not just cost-effective but ensures that the organization runs efficiently as well. And it always helps to let the customers and stakeholders know that the fleet is in good hands.

Now that we’ve told you the difference of the both in complete detail, we do hope that if you ever need a GPS Security Device, you’ll know what it is and you will make an informed decision.
